Finding My Aesthetic

Updated: Aug 12, 2021

Starting a blog and reimagining my social media has me on a journey of finding my aesthetic.

I came across a report from leading trend forecaster, WGSN, detailing the macrotrend titled “Supercharged Simplicity” for Autumn/Winter 22/23 and I felt a strong connection with the aesthetic that they were describing and how it related to the feel that I wanted to portray across my platforms.

I pulled out a couple of keywords that triggered my emotions.

The first idea that caught my attention was their emphasis on timelessness but with a sense of newness. For me this means effortless reinvention with integrity. Staying true to who you are but adjusting to your surroundings.

It speaks about how people are now focusing on curating the items around them as they spend more time at home working and relaxing. For me this means being intentional and minimalistic with your belongings.

They zone in on the idea of being stripped which makes me think of eliminating the fuss and the extravagance; an approach I have taken around my home and in my wardrobe recently. Just the essentials.......what I feel good in and what can be used in many different ways.

Smart was a word that caught my eye as they discussed how tailoring has become relaxed. This evokes a sense of adaptability. An essence of being presentable at all times but comfortable in the same moment.

Timeless. Effortless. Curated. Intentional. Stripped. Essential. Smart. Presentable

A set of words that clearly defines my being. My soul. The essence that I want to share.

I thought that this was the most appropriate place to begin and to set the ground work of a cohesive feel and this led me to creating a mood board of my vision for my personal brand.

I found myself drawn to the earthy tones and natural formations and architecture. They felt timeless but organic and simple. I collected images of texture in luxurious materials but with a timeless, neutral essence to it. I included soft pink accents through my muted, achromatic palette which reflected the feminine accents throughout my generally minimal aesthetic.

I feel at home when I look at the mood board. It feels like me and this is what I want to share with you.
